

Esteban “Steve” Mercado, 85, of Bloomington passed away Monday, January 23, 2017. He was born August 3, 1931 in Bloomington to the late Pioquinto and Carmen Vargas Mercado Sr. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired as a senior lab analyst at Alcoa after 37 years of service. Steve was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle who contributed, inspired and actively served his community and church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Rodriguez Mercado of Bloomington; daughters, Laura Ratliff (Keith) of Victoria, Donna Mercado (Chris Goldsmith) of Missouri City; sons, Michael Mercado (Laurie) of Sugar Land and Rick Mercado (Paula) of Missouri City; sisters, Mamie Rivera and Nancy Garcia of Victoria; brother, Henry Mercado of Bloomington; grandchildren, Stephanie, Peyton, Dylan Nicolas and Megan; and all his nieces and nephews who were so special to him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Steve Clifford Mercado, a sister, Candida Monroy and a brother, Pioquinto Mercado, Jr.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 5-7 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels followed by a Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday, January 26, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow in San Jose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Earl Ahrendt, Gary Garcia, Jessie Mercado, Wayne Mercado, Mike Monroy and Robert Rivera Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Mercado and Pat Welder.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
