Dorothy and Ewald met at a dance when she was 14. He gave her a locket for her 14th birthday. They dated 4 years and married September 1, 1950. For their honeymoon they drove to Seamore, Indiana to see family.  They were blessed with 3 beautiful children, Kathy in 1952, Wayne in 1954 and Larry in 1956.
They lived on FM 234 for 9 1/2 years and then moved into their present home March 12, 1960.
They spent many years traveling with Harold and Florine Koop. One trip was to Las Vegas by "airplane". Ewald said, "If I ever get on the ground, don't ask me to go again!!!" After that, many ROAD trips were taken yearly to see the entire USA. Dorothy drove, Billie Rae read the map and Ewald and George tended to the "goodie box' in the back seat.

Chad, Gwyneth and I showed up at your house Monday afternoon to work in the garden and it was such a sad feeling to look over toward the smoke house and not have you sitting on the tail gate of the mule to supervise us!!  Gwyneth had to use the restroom when we were there and when we went to the house there was the chair by the back door that you always set in to take off your shoes and over on top of the washing machine, there your shoes sat.  I almost expected to walk inside and hear the sounds of guns blairing on the television as you were watching your western shows.  Instead, I entered a silent house.  Although, even though it was quiet and empty..........I still could see, hear and smell you.  You may be gone physically but you are still very much with us.  I caught myself responding to something Gwyneth said the other day "No Child" and it made me think of all your funny sayings.  I think the one I heard the  most growing up was "Why don't you go play on the freeway!!!!"  A battery was a "bat-tree", tomato was "tamaters" and out of the blue you would spat off "Lord have mercy, babies got her blue jeans on!!" 
 I could not have asked for a more loving and wonderful grandfather.  You taught us that hard work and determination would get you where you needed to be in life.  I was proud of the fact that you were a hard working man and technically did not retire until the day you died.  I also think that when you got to heaven you took a day to catch up with your loved ones and the next day I think you went to work because we had a huge storm come through and I figured that was you up there on that maintainer fixing something!!!
Last of all, I want to say thank you for all the Sunday mornings that you made sure Stephanie and I made it to church.  We played a song at your funeral "Thank you for giving to the lord" because I wanted it!  I thank you so much for everything you did to teach me about Jesus Christ.  It is because of our faith and love in Christ that I was able to let you go, because I know it is just a matter of time before I get to see your loving face again.  So Grandad, Thank you for giving to the lord, I am a life that was changed.  May God bless you and please be sure and give Stephanie a HUGE hug and kiss from all of us.  I'm sure she was the second one in line to welcome you into heaven because I know Jesus was first.  I'm also sure his words to you were "Well done, thy good and faithful servant!"  Uncle Avault (Ewald) there won't ever be another like him! Our thoughts and prayers are with y'all. He was truly a blessing to each of us and I know he is with the Lord. Him and Lloyd probably fishing in heaven as we speak! What a great man..., we'll forever miss him and his love for others. Linda he's finally getting to hold that grandchild he so desperately loved and missed.... Your beloved Stephanie. We love you guys! May the peace of the Lord that surpasses all understanding be in the families hearts and minds now and forevermore. Amen

I am very sorry to hear about Ewald and send my sincere condolences to Dorothy and family.  Even as Ewald got older, when I needed a road or levee built all I had to do was call and the job would get done to perfection.  I will miss Ewald.

Dear Koop family- We are greatly saddened to hear of Ewald's death. Wayne has so many wonderful memories of his "Koop" years. May you all be wrapped in God's love during this time and hold fast to your great memories.
