A visitation for Marian Vander Stucken will be held Tuesday, March 11 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels from 9-10:30 a.m. A graveside service with eulogy and Baptist hymns will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery at 11 a.m. If you would like, please feel free to wear Spring colors to the graveside service in honor of Marian’s love for flowers and pretty colors.
Marian was born in Mount Vernon on October 21, 1935 in the home of her grandmother. She was raised by her mother and father in College Station, Texas where she found her love for all things Texas A&M University.
She graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station and attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. It was in College Station where she met the love of her life, Alfred Vander Stucken.
Marian would marry Alfred in 1955 at First Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas. While Alfred served in the United States Air Force and as a soil conservationist with the United States Department of Agriculture, Marian served her family as a homemaker and raised their three children, Alisa, Frances, and Edgar in Seguin and Victoria, Texas.
It was in Victoria that Marian would begin a life-long commitment to community service. Whether it be in First Baptist Church of Victoria, Victoria ISD, or Lions Club International, Marian would volunteer selflessly with her time, talents, and treasures. With over 40 years of service in the Boulevard Lions Club, Marian would serve in many distinguished local positions, as well earning the organization's President Award, Melvin Jones Fellow, and Jack Weich Fellow.
After Alfred’s retirement in 1991, Marian joined her husband on day trips to the family farm and ranch in DeWitt County near Thomaston, Texas. But her travel would not be limited to short day trips, as Marian and Alfred enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, fishing, and camping adventures; often wetting a hook at Coleto Creek Reservoir and Copano Bay near Rockport.
Easter weekends, Summer family vacations, Thanksgiving dinners, and Christmas mornings were among her most favorite memories.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alfred.
She is survived by two daughters, Alisa Vander Stucken, Frances Bolen; son, Edgar Vander Stucken (wife Melissa); 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
