Frederick Regan Tyng, Jr. of Victoria, passed away on June 7, 2026, at the age of 90. Born June 6, 1936, in Dallas, Fred lived in Ennis and Houston before moving with his family to Victoria. He attended Patti Welder High School and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1955, later continuing his studies at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Fred was an employee of Union Carbide, where he worked for 45 years in different roles before settling into accounting. His contributions were so appreciated that he was invited to return to work after his retirement. Fred was a disciplined runner who took pride in being physically fit. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was happiest with a shotgun slung over his shoulder on family dove hunts or casting a fishing line into the bay in Port O’Connor. Whether shooting clay targets, live pigeons, or doves, Fred was known for his excellent marksmanship. In 1964, he won first place in the men’s division of the Corpus Christi Fifth International Pigeon Shoot.
Fred will be remembered for his fun-loving personality, sparkling wit, and love of Notre Dame football. His enthusiasm for the Fighting Irish was infectious, creating many cherished game-day memories for his family. He supported the menagerie of wildlife that frequented the land surrounding his home on the hill, and his dog Sally and cat Gato were especially spoiled.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Tyng; daughter, Debbie Thibodeaux, and her husband, Blaise; brother, Tom Tyng; brother, Timothy Tyng; and parents, Frederick and Dorothy Curran Tyng. He is survived by his daughter, Maddeline Massey, and her husband, Robert; his son, Clyde Tyng, and his wife, Diane; his stepdaughter, Melody Rutherford; his stepson, Mark Hosek; his sister, Elena Tyng Watts; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 13, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
