Gary served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, demonstrating strength and dedication to a cause greater than himself. He was stationed in Victoria, Texas, and it was there he met and married his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Ann (Huber) Dufour. They moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas architecture program but returned home to Victoria to have their first child, Caron Marie.
Gary began work as an instrument mechanic at DuPont and retired in 2000. He was also a rancher and an active member of the Independent Cattleman’s Association, Victoria-Crossroads Chapter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Victoria Council 1329 through Our Lady of Victory Cathedral.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Huber Dufour; daughters Carol Ann Scherer and husband Greg, Cathy Wood and husband Jason, and son Colin Dufour; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Roger Dufour and wife Paula.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, a beloved daughter, Caron Gower, and his sister Trinell Barrum.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from nine o’clock in the morning until half past nine on Thursday, the 29th of January, at Holy Family Catholic Church. The recitation of the rosary will be at half past nine in the morning with the Mass of Christian Burial to commence at ten o’clock in the morning with Father Gabriel Bentil presiding.
Pallbearers will be Colin Dufour, Greg Scherer, Jason Wood, Bryan Clark, Randy Gower, Roger Dufour, Scott Gower, and Derek Gower.
Interment will follow via an escorted cortège to Memory Gardens Cemetery, where full military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council.
