

George F. “Coach” Edwards, 84, passed away Friday, August 3, 2012, in Methodist Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 18, 1928, in Graham to the late George Byers and Ruby Belew Edwards.
George was raised in Sinton where he played football and was named All South Texas Quarterback. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He attended Texas A & I University where he was All Conference linebacker. After graduating he devoted thirty-three years to the field of education as a coach and teacher, serving in the Sinton, Refugio and Industrial School Districts. He was later employed as the Tax Collector and Business Manager for Industrial ISD. Coach then enjoyed twenty-five years of retirement with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Jackie Burns Edwards, of Victoria; sons, Blake (Danah) Edwards of Rockport, Kirby (Sharon) Edwards of Denver, Colorado, Clay (Julie) Edwards of Houston, and Kelly Edwards of Victoria; daughter, Judy (Thane) Emerson of Rockport; grandchildren, Amy (Kelly) Edwards, Lacey, Lindsey, Kleetus, Clinton, Jean and Kaitlynn Edwards, Amanda (Carlos) Dorr, Sara (Ray) Vasquez, Melissa Kemp and Sarah Vickers; three great-grandsons, Bryson and Blaine Dorr and Ayden Edwards.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step-father, Otto Thiele; and brother, William F. Edwards.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 – 7:30 pm Monday, August 6, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Northside Baptist Church, Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be sons, Blake Edwards, Kirby Edwards, Clay Edwards, Kelly Edwards, and grandsons, Kleetus Edwards and Clinton Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers will be all former football players and the Industrial High School 1984 State Championship Golf Team.
