He is survived by his five children, Austin (Kasey), Jordan (Jeff), Zachary, Paige, and Corianne, and his beloved dog, Betty; parents, George and Charlotte Sartor, brothers, Greg (Patty) and John (Deena), sisters, Julie (Charles), Joan Menger (Matt), and Gigi Cappello (Toby) and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
George was born December 5, 1960 in Nuremburg, Germany. He graduated from St. Joseph High School and received his degree from Texas State Technical College in Waco.
His life centered around raising his five children, competitive cycling, and his productive employment of 27 years as a Mechanical Technologist.
George was an avid cyclist and enjoyed torturing not only his friends, but his brother, John’s friends when he was visiting Victoria, Texas. While visiting, George Sartor added a fifth season to the cycling season, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and “oh shit, George is in town”. He couldn’t get enough cycling on the weekends so he rode every work day on the “lunch ride”. George rode his bike to and from work more times than not. He was an active member of Central Valley Velo cycling club. He won his age division in the 2010 Downieville Mountain Bike Race. He also won the 2012 Copperopolis Road Race which was decided by a photo finish. George completed the Death Ride three years in a row. It is a 129 mile ride through the Sierra Nevadas with 15,000 feet of elevation gain through five mountain passes! George was also a California Triple Crown Gold winner and, no, he didn’t ride horses, he just rode his bike, long and hard. This prestigious award is awarded to those riders insane enough to have completed five double-century rides. George went above and beyond and did a sixth double century, just for good measure. He rode many more century rides, too many to count. George’s Strava account has logged over 22,000 miles of riding on his Leopard Cycle DC1. He basically rode the distance of circling the globe. George enjoyed the richness of friendship in the cycling community especially, Erbin, Bao, Nina, Ken and many, many more.
