

George Whitehead, age 86, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011. He was born October 21, 1925 in Gonzales County to the late Raymon and Nettie O. Bernard Whitehead. He was retired, and had owned and operated G. W. Foundation Company for over 43 years. He was a member of Western Hills Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy as a ship fitter, and was a member of the American Legion. George loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed farming and his cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred B. Hassell Whitehead; son, Richard Lee Harper and wife Wanda of Santa Fe; daughters, Jean Dunn and husband Jeff of Harlingen, Pamela Smith and husband Wayne of Driftwood, Bernie Hulin and husband Dwight of Conroe, and Georgia Kaye Baylor and husband Brent of Victoria; sister, Martha Redford of Austin; 25 grandchildren, Richard Harper Jr. and wife Jodi, Deanna Gomez and husband Chris, Alicia Casby, Brandon Smith and wife Cathy, Quinton Smith, Garrett Smith, Sarah Hulin, Hannah Hulin, Leah Hulin, Rebekah Hulin, Joshua Hulin, Susannah Hulin, Lydia Hulin, Johanna Hulin, Priscilla Hulin, Josiah George Hulin, Benjamin Whitehead Baylor and wife Clara, Walker Baylor, Micah Baylor, Harrison Baylor, Aaron Baylor, Josiah Baylor, Nettie Kaye Baylor, Mollie Jo Baylor, and Liddie Jean Baylor; 9 great grandchildren, Andrew, Jonathan, Alyssa and Alexa Harper, Kayla and C. T. Gomez, Ethan Casby, and Cadence and Avery Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant daughters, Nettie Kaye and George Ann Whitehead; sisters, Nettie Ray Nelson, Georgia May Heller, and Mary Lee Horne; and brothers, Jimmy, F. E., Robert, Lester, Willis, and Raymon Whitehead.
Visitation will be held 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Western Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens with full military honors under Auspices of Victoria County Veterans Council.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Harper Jr., Brandon Smith, Quinton Smith, Garrett Smith, Joshua Hulin, Benjamin W. Baylor, Walker Baylor, and Micah Baylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Harrison Baylor, Aaron Baylor, Josiah Baylor and Josiah G. Hulin.
