Geraldine Dick Hamilton, 86, died peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at her home in Victoria. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Freda Yamin and George Herro Dick; daughter, Ricki Lynn Hamilton; sister, Mary Dick Joseph; brother-in-law, Bill Joseph; and infant brother, George Isaac, Jr. Gerry was born on December 5, 1931 in Victoria, where she lived for most of her life. Gerry graduated from Nazareth Academy and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of Houston. She was involved in many college activities, including pledging Chi Omega Sorority and was best known as one of the top 10 most beautiful women on campus. Gerry began her professional career working at Dick’s Food Store, while still in high school. After graduating college, she continued her work at the family store before launching Gerry’s School of Charm. She then moved to California, where she worked with lifelong friends at their Tree Farm. On the West Coast, Gerry met her future husband and began to build her family. Gerry, known lovingly as Tita “Grandmother,” embraced her role as family matriarch, loving mother, dedicated grandmother and great grandmother. Gerry is survived by her children, Tracy Hamilton Byers of Houston; Gregory Braden Hamilton of Houston; Andee Starling of Victoria; and Suzanne Kayian of Maui; grandchildren, Ricki Starling, Austin Hamilton, Kevan Starling, Sara Starling, Dean Byers, Erika Starling and Zofia Kayian; and great-grandchildren, Coby and Gavin Starling. Gerry, affectionately known as Aunt Dew, is also survived by nieces, Georganne Joseph, Theresa Smits (Jim), and Jeanne Tomlinson (Clint); and nephews, D’Cater Joseph (Jerilyn), John Anthony Joseph, and Chuck Joseph (Ania); great nieces and nephews, Jessica, Aubrie, Will, Stephanie, Gaby, Sydney, and John Paul; and many beloved friends and family members including an exchange daughter, Synne Sletvold of Norway, Carmen, Mary, Cathy and Diane. In the early 1980’s, Gerry returned to the business world, with stints working at several restaurants; then she launched and co-operated The Compound Restaurant and Bar with her cousin, Sarah Bollman. In addition to the restaurant business, Gerry was also very proud to have spent several years working alongside the Pillsbury Doughboy. Gerry spent the most recent 25 years of her life, nurturing her family and cherishing her grandchildren. When asked to describe Gerry, friends and family all utter similar words: giving, family, fun, happy and love. Gerry was a special lady and friend to me--visiting her and the children when they were younger was always a treat! I was present at opening night at the Compound and just enjoyed all of her friends coming and enjoying her food and beverages! The memories go on and on.
My deepest condolences to you, the family and her friends. May the memories you made with her now comfort you as you mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
