Gloria Lucille Ideus, 94, of Victoria, TX, passed away on September 14, 2023 in Victoria, TX. Gloria was born in Sinton, TX to Alfred Rothlisberger and Sophie (Niemeyer) Rothlisberger on July 2, 1929. Music surrounded her her entire life as she grew up between her mom’s piano and her uncle’s band instruments. She graduated from Burbank High School and Trinity University, both in San Antonio, TX. She moved to Victoria to start her teaching career. Instead, she met and married Warren Louis Ideus on February 19, 1950 at Faith Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX. She moved back to San Antonio to begin teaching again in 1967 but after 2 years, moved back to Victoria to watch Bob graduate from Stroman High School and continue to raise John and LaNell in a smaller town atmosphere.
Gloria worked as a music teacher for the Victoria Independent School District for more than 30 years at several different campuses. She also served as the choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was the organist and soloist for many marriages there and throughout Victoria. She was involved in the Victoria Civic Chorus and the Victoria Music Club, having participated in a variety of musicals and concerts throughout the years. Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Sophie Rothlisberger; brother, Melton Charles Rothlisberger; brother-in-law, Donald Keller, former husband, Warren Ideus; stepson, Harold Ideus; grandson, Timothy Ideus; and daughter-in-law, Rosalyn Cruzan-Ideus.
Gloria is survived by sons Robert Ideus of Houston, TX, and John (Julie) Ideus of Bay City, TX; daughter LaNell (Steve) Gengenbacher of Goliad, TX; sister Irene Keller of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Katie Moore, Megan (Lance) Ideus-Salas, Bryan (Kim Hefner) Moore, Sarah (Cody) Blaylock, Brittany (David III) Amador, and Amy (Brandon) Varela; great grandchildren: Lynly Salas, Olivia Varela, Jett Blaylock, Charlotte Varela, Ephraim Amador, Amelia Varela, and Penelope Varela; former son-in-law, Robert Moore, and former daughter-in-law, Claudette Ideus.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 21. 2023 at Colonial Funeral Home, Victoria, TX. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Victoria, TX, with Pastor Ildiko Rigney of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating, and Pastor Barney Matocha and Pastor Kara Hairell-Speed assisting. Graveside services and burial will be held at Mission Park South Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren: Katie Moore, Megan Ideus-Salas, Bryan Moore, Sarah Blaylock, Brittany Amador, and Amy Varela. Honorary pallbearers will be current and former members of Trinity Lutheran Church Choirs.
Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or to donor’s choice.
