Jr. grew up on his family ranch in Mission Valley and graduated from Victoria High School in 1960. He went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In July 1967, Jr married Virginia Schroeter, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2017. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Cynthia Jordan and Kelly of Victoria, Jennifer Wilson and Wade of Seguin; his grandchildren, Hannah Camille Jordan, Hadlee Ray Wilson, Hays Middlebrook Wilson, Harper Leigh Wilson and Haidyn Max Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Godfred and Virginia started Victoria Speed Equipment in 1969 and then later purchased Lions Auto Parts. They were in business for 28 years until their retirement in 1997.
Jr. was also deeply committed to giving back to his community. He volunteered in many capacities at his church and was a 39-year member of the Victoria Lions Club, where he was honored as both a Melvin Jones Fellow and a Jack Wiech Fellow.
In years past, you could find him and Virginia most Friday nights playing dominoes with the Brzozowskes and Melnars. He always looked forward to monthly Supper Club with the Browns, Carrolls, Cleggs, Cohens, Goldmans, Nevluds, and Tuckers. In his later years, he enjoyed hanging out at local car shows, while reminiscing about hot rod days and announcing at Six Flags Dragway. These gatherings and friendships brought him great joy throughout his life.
Godfred was a long-time rancher. He loved traveling and exploring new places. Following the passing of Virginia, he loaded the RV and took his oldest grandchildren on a memorable cross-country adventure, traveling first along the West Coast and later making their way to the East Coast.
Visitation will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Service will be conducted at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, August 14, 2026, beginning at 10 am. Christian burial with full military honors to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his 5 grandchildren, Brian Tiemann, Todd Heibel, and Dennis Jacob.
Honorary pallbearers include Trinity Lutheran Men’s group, Friday Night Domino group, Supper Club, and fellow members of Victoria Lions Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of South Texas.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. William Shay, Dr. Chris Thomas, Dr. Chelif Junor, and their staff for the many years of compassionate care they provided to our dad. We are also deeply grateful to the entire staff at Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion for the love, comfort, and support they provided during his final two weeks.
