Harry attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1962. He received a bachelor of science in biology in 1968 and a master of science in geology in 1975 both from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). While attending UTEP he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega the first fraternity on UTEP’s campus that was for engineers and geologists.
Harry was a professor at Victoria College for 33 years before he retired in 2013. He was also a co-author of several study guides in the field of geology. Mr. Wagner was a member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association, as well as chairing the geology section programs at multiple conventions. He also was a member of the West Texas Geological Section, Permian Basin Section (Paleontology), and the Victoria Gem and Mineral Society.
In addition to his time in Victoria, he spent much of his free time in El Paso, TX, and in Ruidoso, New Mexico where he enjoyed numerous outdoor activities and being in the mountains.
Harry is survived by his wife, LeAnn Van Dusseldorp Wagner; daughters Elizabeth Mayer and husband Jason, Sara Wagner; son Harry A. Wagner IV and wife Eliseba; brother Tom Wagner and grandchildren Eleanor, Jackson and Kate.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Wagner.
Visitation is on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 5-7 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7 pm. A funeral mass will be at 10 am Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 402 S. Main, Victoria, TX.
Graveside services will be held in El Paso, TX on Friday, July 12, 2024.
