

Helen A. Herndon, 88, of Victoria passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012. She was born September 4, 1923, in Yoakum to the late William E. and Lillie Morgan Allen. Helen served her country in the United States Army during World War II. She was a retired nurse, having been employed by Citizens Hospital and Dr. Plowman’s office. Helen was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her sons, William E. Herndon and wife, JoAnn, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Robert D. Herndon and wife, Rosie, of Beeville, and Michael L. Herndon and wife, Renee, of Hutto; sisters, Wilma Horn of San Antonio and Ruth Damerau of Willis; brother, Clyde Allen of Austin; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Herndon, in 1994, and a daughter, Donna Brown in 1976.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday, July 9, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 10 am Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Rev. Carl Westbrook officiating. Burial with full military honors under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Cameron Stanley, Scott Townsend, Justin Wright, Dennis Allen Horn, Derek Horn and Dan Heron.
