Herbert James Koehler

Herbert “Herb” Koehler of Cuero passed into the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2019. He was born on November 20th, 1942 in Austin, Texas to the late Herbert and Frieda Koehler. He graduated from Giddings High School and attended trade school in refrigeration repair. He married the late Shirley Koehler on September 16th 1962 and they raised one daughter and two sons. Herb worked as a repairman for Sears for a number of years and then spent a majority of his career working for Xerox as a Technician and Service Manager for 25 years. Following his official retirement, Herb went to work for his dear friend Gene Pratka at Gene’s Machine. Since then, Herb has enjoyed spending time at his ranch he called “Da Place.”

Herbert had a love for the outdoors. He was a true steward of the land and enjoyed mentoring and teaching others about the fine art of hunting and fishing. He found so much enjoyment in a young person’s experience at catching their first fish or harvesting their first deer. Herb was also an active member of the Central DeWitt County Wildlife Management Association for many years. In his free time, you could always find Herb hanging out at DQ with the fellas or the gym talking about his favorite subjects, politics and his grandkids. Herb was also known as having an amazing sense of humor.

Mr. Koehler is survived by his daughter, Debbie Koehler Dick and husband Jimmy or Pearland; Sons, Brian James Koehler and wife Val of Victoria and Bradley Wayne Koehler of Cuero; Grandchildren, Christian and Lorin Dick; Sisters Janette Schiwart and husband Melvin and Marilyn Schautschick and husband Alvin. Herb was also known by many who lovingly called him “Popsy.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant brother and grandparents.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 6th from 12:30-2:30 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Graveside committal will follow at 3 at Memory Gardens Cemetery. A celebration of life will take place at 4 at Grace Lutheran Church, Pastor Keith Aschenbeck presiding. Pallbearers will be Mark Dick, Tommy Ewing, Chuck Johnson, Michael Otten, Scott Schautschick, James Schimcek, Duane Schiwart and Larry Weiser.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Central DeWitt County Wildlife Management Association, PO Box 776, Cuero, TX 77954 or Grace Lutheran Church, 9806 Zac Lentz Parkway, Victoria, TX 77904. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.rosewoodfuneralchapel.com.

To the family of a very dear friend of mine I am sorry for your loss Mr. Herb was a great friend and I enjoyed his friendship very much and the time that I spent with him working on something for him like cutting the tree limbs off the road to the back gate and building the brace under the big limb and fishing and just sitting and talking to Mr. Herb I will miss him greatly from his Alabama friend William Perrigin my God Bless ya'll.

So sorry to learn of Herb's passing. Great memories of sitting in the back of the truck, drinking Bullfrogs and watching the Fourth of July fireworks with Herb, Shirley, and Bradley. Condolences and prayers for the family.

We were so sorry to hear this news and will Pray for your Family. There are so many memories of our childhood with Jimmy and our families. We spent many Saturday evenings playing together. Our parents playing dominoes and us kids staying out of trouble (for the most part).
