Hilbert "Skeeter" Bernard Etzler

Hilbert “Skeeter” Bernard Etzler, age 99 years and 10 months, peacefully passed away on September 1, 2026. Skeeter was born on October 22, 1926, in Hallettsville, Texas, to Theodore and Agnes Christ Etzler.

Skeeter married Joline Leopold on May 5, 1953, and together they shared 73 years of marriage. He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict and later retired from Alcoa after 26 years of dedicated work.

A man who found purpose in steady hands and simple joys, Skeeter especially enjoyed making wooden toys in his shop and going fishing every chance he could. Until his health began to fail, he gave generously of his time—volunteering at Knights of Columbus BBQ’s and bingos, and helping prepare meals at Christ’s Kitchen.

Skeeter is survived by his wife, Joline Leopold Etzler; his children, Barbara Warmuth (Edward), Janice Kocian (Mike), Rose Patek (Mike), and William Etzler; and his son-in-law, Charles Miller. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Skeeter was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Miller; his brothers, Alphonse Etzler and Ervin Etzler; and his sisters, Lucille Etzler, Emmerlin Dworsky, and Sr. Serena Etzler.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Colonial Funeral Home from 5-7pm, with the Rosary to follow at 7pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 1pm at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory, with interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons: James and Jason Warmuth, Jonathan and Paul Miller, Kassh and Kole Kocian, and Kevin and Kendle Patek.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Riverside Oaks Nursing Home and the team of Detar doctors and nurses for the love and care provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Skeeter’s memory to Our Lady of Victory TV Mass, Christ’s Kitchen, OLV Seminarians, or the donor’s choice.
