

After graduating from Ensley High School he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated as a Flight Officer flying P-40’s at Foster Field in 1944. After graduating, he was an instructor using his expertise to train cadets to become better at flying, bombing as well as becoming good and efficient fighter pilots.
On July 4th, 1945 Howard met Mary Louise Roell and November 24, 1945 they married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Victoria, Texas. This marriage lasted almost 71 years.
In December, 1948, Howard went to work for Central Power and Light Co. He began as an Engineer, moved up to Asst. District Engineer and then District Engineer for Guadalupe Valley for 1 year. Then he was transferred to Corpus Christi in 1976 as a Distribution Design Engineer. He retired in December, 1987 with 39 years of service.
He and his wife, Mary Louise, moved back to Victoria. Flying was still in his blood, so he bought an airplane and took his family on several vacations visiting family and friends. He flew around Victoria and surrounding areas. He flew until the age of 76, then decided to keep his feet on the ground.
Howard in survived by his Wife, Mary Louise; Daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Wharton; 2 grandsons, 3 nephews, one niece and two granddogs.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Daughter, Edie Jahn; Aunt, Dortha Reynolds and Sister, Margaret Donelson.
A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 4-6 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
A graveside service will be Monday, October 3, 2016 at 2 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
