

Iris was born on June 6, 1918, in Three Rivers, TX to William A. and Melissa G. Everett. Not long after her birth, Iris moved with her family to Calliham, TX in Live Oak County. The family later moved to Austin, TX where Iris graduated from high school. During high school, she played on her school’s championship basketball team. Iris then moved to Bruni, TX where she was employed by the telephone company as a switchboard operator.
While in Bruni, Iris met her forever love, Bert Meeks. They would go on to live in both Freer and Alice TX and then in Lafayette LA. In 1959, the family moved to Victoria TX where Iris was employed by Melvin’s for a time and then settled into the role of full-time home maker. Over the years, many family members and guests enjoyed the delicious meals she loved preparing.
Iris was a faithful member of the Blyth Road Church of Christ where her husband, Bert, served as a deacon for many years. Iris and Bert always enjoyed hosting domino and 42 parties for their many church friends. Iris actively participated in her church’s many support functions until failing health made it impossible for her to continue.
Iris was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, who passed away in April, 2011. She is survived by her sister, Lora; son, Lynn Wells Meeks and wife Shiela; daughter, Patricia Jane Hahn and husband James; and son, Larry Joe Meeks and wife Shirley; grandchildren, Andy Meeks and wife Lusine, Bill Meeks, Madelyn Venable and husband George, Anthony Hahn and wife Kellie, Thomas Hahn and wife Annie, Raine Meeks-Cash and husband Mark, and Misti Turner and husband James; great grandchildren, Kayley Hahn, Arin Meeks, Natalie Hahn, London Turner, Alexander Meeks, Everett Turner, Alana Hahn, Griffin Meeks and Olivia Hahn.
A visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Colonial Funeral Home, followed by funeral services at 1:00 pm with Mr. Will McDonald officiating. Burial will be held 2:30 pm at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Victoria. Words of comfort may be shared with the Family at www.colonialfuneralhomevictoria.com
