James Patrick Adcock, 70, passed away peacefully on Friday, surrounded by the love and memories of those who meant so much to him.
James was born and raised in Victoria, Texas, where he built a life centered around hard work, family, friendship, faith, and making people laugh. He was a faithful man who loved the Lord Jesus Christ deeply. He read his Bible every day and was devoted to his relationship with God, drawing strength and comfort from his faith throughout his life.
He proudly served in the National Guard as a tanker, carrying with him the strength, determination, and loyalty that were such a big part of who he was.
James was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for his family. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved the freedom and adventure that came with being on two wheels. One of James’s greatest passions was riding his Harley. To him, riding was more than a hobby—it was a feeling of freedom, adventure, and being out on the open road. He loved his Harley and the camaraderie that came with being part of the riding community. Whether he was out enjoying a ride, talking motorcycles, or simply sitting around sharing stories with friends, his love for riding was unmistakably part of who he was. He could often be found happiest with the wind in his face, the rumble of a Harley beneath him, and good people by his side.
Those who knew James will remember him most for his outgoing personality, his sense of humor, and his ability to make people laugh. He loved being around people and treasured time spent with his family, grandchildren, and friends. Every time one of his grandchildren would come through the door he would say “where is poppy’s hug?”. And they knew they better give poppy a hug. He also had a genuine love for good food—and especially sweets. His sweet tooth was something those who loved him knew well.
James faced many challenges throughout his life. After being diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver, he underwent a liver transplant that his oldest son; Justin donated part of his liver. The years that followed were not always easy, but James continued to fight and persevere. Through it all, his faith remained an important part of his life, and he found reasons to live, love, laugh, and enjoy the people around him. He wanted to make sure that anyone he talked to could be saved by the Lord Jesus Christ.
James was preceded in death by his beloved son, Corey James Adcock. Losing Corey was one of the deepest heartbreaks of James’s life, and he carried that loss with him every day. Corey was never forgotten and remained a cherished part of James’s heart and his family’s story. We find comfort in knowing that James and Corey are together again.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Adcock, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.
He survived by his daughter, Megan Adcock Groll. Megan was James’s pride and joy—his beloved daddy’s girl and lifelong partner in crime. She was always by his side, sharing in his adventures, riding his motorcycles, and creating cherished memories together. Their special bond was filled with love, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments.
He survived his oldest son, Justin Adcock. James and Justin shared a deep and special bond, and James was incredibly proud of the man Justin had become. In a selfless act of love, Justin donated part of his liver to help keep his father alive, a gift that reflected the strength of their relationship and the love they shared. James cherished Justin not only as his son, but also as a devoted firefighter who dedicated his life to helping others.
He also survived his brother; Donald Ray Adcock, and sister; Tina Reeves, and each and every one of his seven grandchildren, who brought him tremendous love and joy. He also leaves behind countless friends and loved ones who will remember his laughter, his stories, his hard-working spirit, his devotion to the Lord, and the unmistakable personality that made him James.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
