James Allen "Jimmy" Brown was born on July 21, 1944 in Corpus Christi, Texas and passed away on July 9, 2018 in Victoria, Texas. He succumbed to an unanticipated heart condition during the initial recovery from routine orthopedic surgery.
He leaves his wife of 39 years Wanda Rogers Brown.
Jimmy and Wanda began dating in High School, but created separate families, reuniting and marrying later in life. Jimmy accepted his step-sons as his own.
Growing up a preacher's kid, Jimmy moved often as a child, moving from town to town and congregation to congregation. His childhood recollections usually started with a reference to the church his family was serving at the time.
Education became paramount in Jimmy's life. He first received degrees in religious education from Abilene Christian College followed by a Doctorate in Education from East Texas State University. Afterwards, he taught at West Texas State University, Amarillo College and Alvin Community College before retiring and becoming an Adjunct Professor at Victoria College.
He was active in Kiwanis for decades in several cities. He was a charter member of the Alvin Kiwanis Club, and served as President, Secretary and Treasurer. He also served multiple terms as the Lt. Governor of the Texas-Oklahoma Region. He lead and participated in numerous fundraisers and service events over the years, his favorite being the Texas Ramp Project.
Jimmy and Wanda recently welcomed their first great-grandson, Jake born to proud parents Jeremy Chadbourne (son of Clyn) and Chelsea almost exactly a year ago.
