Aunt Jane was a very sweet lady and awesome aunt who smiled constantly. She loved to go to Jason’s Deli when I would visit her. She is missed immensely.

Jane Lee Deaton was a mom, grandma, great-grandma, poet/song-writer & horticulturist. She was born on January 13, 1921 in Chicago, IL, but mostly lived in southern-Illinois towns—attending public school in Carbondale; with a move to New York, during WWII, with her now-deceased husband, Joseph Deaton (married, Febr. 1944).
Post-war, back in southern Illinois, 'Joe' pursued a career in school administration; Jane was a homemaker, now survived by two sons, John & James. (Everybody got the initials, JD!) As a poet, Jane sometimes went by 'Roberta.'
While John was in Kansas City, Joe died; and Jane & James moved to Victoria, Texas, 1975. (John moved to Victoria, 1977.)
She always loved getting the family together, at her home for food & fun—especially for holidays & birthdays.
Very recently, Jane had a few years of slowly-declining health (incl., breaking her upper leg, Nov. 17, after surviving Aug.'s Hurricane Harvey—of the 10 major tropical storms she weathered in TX), but typically recovered.
By the end of 2019, several complications were too much—so she had a swift decline; and Jane passed away on January 10, 2020—three days before her 99th birthday.
Jane was also survived by grandkids Shane, Melody & Jeremy, great-grandkids Cielo, Eryx, Bretton & Zane; and her brother's family, in Corpus Christi, TX; and their deceased sister's family, in California.
She will be remembered, for her good nature—as a loving & supportive mom & grandma—by her family & friends.
