Born on June 9, 1950, in Asheville, North Carolina, Jan was the daughter of the late Ernest and Thelma Nix Mandeville. She lived a life defined by unwavering faith, selfless love, wisdom, and a wholehearted devotion to serving God and others.
For 28 years, Jan shared a loving marriage with her devoted husband, Earl Turner. Together they built a home founded on faith, compassion, and service. One of the greatest expressions of their love was their commitment to caring for children in need. Over the years, Jan and Earl opened their hearts and home to ten foster children, offering them love, security, encouragement, and hope. Among those precious children were three beautiful daughters whom they later adopted and lovingly raised as their own: Abigail, Kayla, and Cassandra Turner.
Jan devoted her life wholeheartedly to the Lord and His church. Her faith was not only something she believed, but something she lived every day. Deeply involved in her church family, she faithfully served wherever she was needed and was known by many as a powerful prayer warrior. Countless lives were touched by her prayers, gentle encouragement, and steadfast trust in God.
Those who knew Jan often sought her wisdom. She possessed an ability to listen with grace, offer guidance with compassion, and bring comfort during life's challenges. Her gentle spirit, kind heart, and genuine concern for others made everyone feel valued and loved. Jan was a truly selfless woman who consistently put the needs of others before her own, reflecting Christ's love through every aspect of her life.
Jan treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and loyal friend. Her beloved grandchildren, Amara and Aison, brought endless joy and countless smiles to her face. She treasured every moment spent with them and considered them among God's greatest blessings in her life.
Jan leaves behind her loving husband of 28 years, Earl Turner; her beloved daughters, Abigail Turner, Kayla Turner, and Cassandra Turner; her cherished grandchildren, Amara and Aison; her sister, Myra Leonhardt(Larry); her brothers Michael Mandeville, Mark Mandeville(Cathy); and her lifelong friends, Cindy Cude and Deloris Carr. She also leaves behind her church family, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were forever blessed by her faith, wisdom, prayers, and unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Thelma Nix Mandeville.
While her family and friends mourn the loss of her earthly presence, they rejoice in the assurance that Jan is now in the presence of the Savior she loved and served so faithfully throughout her life. Her legacy of unwavering faith, wisdom, compassion, and selfless love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she has heard the words she longed to hear:
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
Matthew 25:23
