I was shocked and very saddened to hear of Jay's passing. He and I were in a band together a long time ago called 'No Complaints' back in the 80s. That was one of the first bands I was in and I will never forget it. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jay and I will always look back on that time with great fondness. He was a truly gifted singer and he brought joy into people's lives. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

I met Jay many years ago when he and Mike were regularly playing at a little bar/dance/pool hall there in Victoria (Sybil’s). Always the gentleman, he saved mine and my friend Susan’s butts more than once from situations we shouldn’t have been in. He always knew that I wanted to hear him sing Desperado. He always sang it. How I wish we could hear him sing that one more time. It’s been many years (and sober at that) but I will always remember Jay as a big brother. Praying for his family 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am a Grace Journey community member, Pastor of Agape Family Church in Houston and I do respect pastors especially those like Pst Jay. True Servant of God, given their lives for His service.

Our prayers are with the congregation and all family members. May our loving Lord be a great comfort and fortress at this time.

I was saddened to hear about Jay passing. Mike Schmeltzer, Jay, and myself used to play together when we lived on Dundee St in Victoria. Butch (Jay’s Dad) and my Dad worked together at DuPont and Jeanette (Jay’s mom) and my mom carpooled us to school and bowled together.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family especially his wife Valeri and his kids and Jeanette. God Bless.

To the Jay Tegeler Family: I am so sorry for your great loss; he was a great singer. I first heard him when he sang at the Cowgirl Club years ago and then at Four Corners. Super talented singer. He will be missed! May he Rest In Peace!

Jay will be missed by so many. He was a Godly man full of life and love for everyone. I had the opportunity to meet Jay through Grace Journey and will forever hold his devotions and testimonies close to my heart. To his wife and kids I am so sorry for your loss. Heaven has gained someone big. I know he’s singing his heart out smiling down upon you. To his church family, my brothers and sisters in Grace, I know the Love you had for your pastor. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. Know each of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Hold onto one another and keep Bro. Jays memories alive.

I met Jay through the Grace Journey. We served on team together maybe 6 or 7 years ago. He was on the music ministry. I loved the way he sang and played the guitar. At the time my youngest daughter was in her early teens and wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I asked Jay if he could teach her and where I could buy her a guitar. Not only did he agree to give her lessons but he bought my daughter a guitar as a gift to someone he never met. Although we haven’t kept in touch through the years, my family never forgot his kindness, generosity and love. I believe Jesus is smiling to have Jay home.

I was so very saddened to learn of Jay's passing. I liked him immensely and thought so very highly of him.

It was a distinct pleasure to watch his career of service evolve. My wife and I were at Pastor Scott Weatherford's house the evening he and Valeri joined us to discuss his future involvement with Parkway.

Early on, not even knowing him that well, he was one of the first people to arrive at my bedside when I became very ill and found myself in intensive care. That's exactly the kind of person he was and I always appreciated it and felt a debt of gratitude.

He's conducted marriage ceremonies for relatives and later preached both my sister's and dad's funeral. All this, of course, and singing beautifully as well.

Very few people can even come close to matching the positive impact he had on so many people's lives. My sincere condolences to his loved ones. My hope is they all gain some degree of comfort in considering that positive influence he had on so many others.

May he Rest In Peace. They don't make too many like Jay. He'll be so very missed.

I met Jay in 2002 at Parkway, and barely knew him when he arrived at my apartment with the praise team in tow to be with me when my wife Tammy passed. He was the first to pray with me that day, and later he helped me to get plugged in with the bands at Parkway. Many Sunday mornings before practice he lent me an ear and his big heart, patiently waiting for the moment to give me his advice and to encourage me. Jay had a way of getting the best music out of anybody, and I can’t explain how much I owe him for it. I’ll always remember the heart on fire for Jesus and how much he would put himself aside to lift others up.
