Jerry E. Fabian, 86, of Victoria, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 3, 2025. He was born November 4, 1938, in Midway, TX, to Louis L. and Emilie Huebner Fabian. He married Bernice M. Husinecky on November 11, 1958, at the original St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford, TX.
Jerry attended school at St. Joseph’s in Yoakum, TX, from first through third grade, then at Beasley School in Midway, TX, from fourth through sixth grade, and finally at Yoakum Junior High and Yoakum High School. After graduation, he joined the Army Reserves program, undergoing basic training at Fort Chaffee, AR. He then transferred to Fort Polk, LA, where he remained until his discharge in 1957.
Upon discharge, Jerry returned to Yoakum to work for the Texas Highway Department for a short time. He then entered the retail grocery business, serving as Assistant Manager at Boysen’s Super Market in Bay City, TX, and then as Manager in El Campo, TX. He then joined H.E.B. as a Manager trainee in Yoakum, TX, in 1960. After a short time at Elo’s Grocery in Yoakum, TX, he returned to H.E.B. and remained as a Manager until 1967. In October 1967, he moved the family back to Bay City, TX, to work for Celanese, an international producer of industrial chemicals. Missing the grocery business after a few years, he then moved the family to Victoria, TX, where he enjoyed many years of wholesale grocery sales for Groce-Wearden and finishing his sales career at Gulf Coast Paper.
Jerry was a charter member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served as an Eucharistic Minister and Usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Suburban Kiwanis Club, Hermann Sons DaCosta Lodge, and a graduate and member of the Victoria Civilian Police Association. Jerry was also previously involved in Victoria Little League, serving as a Manager in the early 1970s. He also enjoyed driving the school bus for Church youth group trips and school sporting events when his children were involved, and camping with family friends.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice M. Fabian, one daughter, Diana L. Bjornson and husband Art, and one son, Jerry W. Fabian and wife Brenda, four grandchildren Lori Hannan (Geoff), Holly Adams (Andrew), Amanda Fabian, and Miles Fabian (Caitlin), four great grandchildren Blayze Scott, Paxton Adams, Parker Fabian, and Bennett Fabian, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Lee Slovacek, Anna Mae Leck Neighbors, and Evelyn Kurtz, and one brother, Louis R. Fabian.
The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, followed immediately by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am. Military honors of the flag folding under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will be conducted after the mass. The Rev. Gabriel Bentil and Rev. Ryan Kapavik are officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Miles Fabian, Blayze Scott, Steven Slovacek, and Andrew Adams. Honorary pallbearers are Benjamin Husinecky and Charles Orsak.
A reception will be held at the Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Peter's Hall, following the burial.
