

Jerry Alvin Uptmor, a longtime resident of Victoria and beloved friend and family member, passed away on September 2, 2026. He was 85. Jerry was born Jan. 31, 1941, in Corpus Christi to Alvin and Elvie Uptmor. He graduated from Miller High School and joined the Army, eventually moving to Victoria after his service and meeting his future wife, Mary.
Jerry worked for Southwestern Bell in Victoria for many years and was a parishioner at Holy Family Catholic Church, where he was the cantor and sang in the choir. After he retired from Southwestern Bell, he became a handyman and contractor and worked on houses for friends. Jerry was a man of many talents. His beautiful voice and charming demeanor led him to sing at countless weddings, celebrations and funerals through the years.
He cherished his friendships at Holy Family. He could build anything, from picnic tables for the Holy Family auction to the gazebo in his back yard. He loved time with his family and friends. You could count on him for a memorable conversation
and a lot of laughs.The world won’t be the same without him.
He is survived by his daughters Rebecca Hearn (Jerry), Amy Carlile (Jim), grandchildren Brandon, Samantha, Nicole, Catherine and Colleen, and siblings Kathy Payne, Mark Uptmor and Grant Uptmor, as well as four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Mary, his wife of 55 years, and
siblings Maxine Sailors and Richard Uptmor.
