Joe William Mueller, 88 of Victoria passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016. He was born on May 18, 1928 in Yorktown, Texas near the Gruenau community, to the late Max and Delia Mueller. After graduating from Yorktown High School in 1946, Joe enlisted in the Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was a Private in Battery A of the 17th Field Artillery Battalion. After completing his service to his country, he was Honorably Discharged. In 1949, he married Helen Catherine Ledwig. They moved to Beeville, TX in 1949 and he started his career with Central Power and Light Company as a cashier in the ice department. During this time, Joe attended night school for three and a half years at Beeville Community College. In 1951, he went into the CPL marketing department assisting in electricity sales. In 1954, he was promoted to senior cashier, in the Mathis, TX CPL office. In 1957, Joe was promoted to office manager in the Kingsville, TX CPL office. In 1970, he was promoted to area manager in the Taft, TX office. His responsibilities included overall operations for the communities served electricity by CPL: Taft, Sinton, Gregory, Edroy, Odem, San Patricio and Bluntzer, TX. He served as President of the Kingsville Kiwanis Club, and School Trustee for St. Gertrude's Catholic School. He also was member of the Elks Lodge and served on the Kingsville United Way board and Boy Scouts of America. During his many years in the Taft community Joe served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Taft Rotary, Holy Family Catholic Church Men's Club, Taft Community Fund, Taft Boll Weevil Festival and Taft Industrial Foundation. He served 15 years on the Zoning and Planning Commission and 17 years on the City of Taft Electrical Board. He was also a member of the Mayor's Homeport Committee and was very active in the Taft Holy Family Catholic Church. Joe retired from CPL in June 1988, completing a 39 year career. In 2000, Joe and Helen moved to Victoria, TX. He was a member of the Victoria, TX post of the American Legion. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather (PaPa). He was an inspiration to his kids and taught them that hard work is the key to success.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Mueller; daughter, Bridget (Oscar) Villarreal of Boston, Massachusetts; son, Bruce (Sharon) Mueller of Garden City, Kansas; and grandchildren, Trenton Mueller of Victoria and Shelby Mueller of San Marcos, Texas.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Delton Mueller.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels from 5 PM to 7 PM with a Rosary recited at 7 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church followed by burial with a flag fold and presentation under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Trenton Mueller, Charlton Ledwig, and Jonathon Ledwig of Victoria, TX, Keith Ledwig of Cleburne, TX, Steven Lange and Matthew Lange of Meyersville, TX.
