

John B. Sala, Jr., a native of Victoria County, died Sunday afternoon, February 26, 2012. He was 79 years of age. Mr. Sala was born May 24, 1932. He was the son of the late Josephine Pozzi Sala and John B. Sala, Sr.
Mr. Sala was a long time employee of Union Carbide at the Seadrift Plant, working mostly in the computer field. He had previously worked in the photography/engraving department of the Victoria Advocate.
A member of Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, he was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and Victoria College. He was a direct ancestor of a group of workers from Northern Italy who migrated to the Victoria-Rosenberg area in the late 1800’s. His grandfather, Giacomo Sala, was among those workers who helped build what became known as the Macaroni Line, a railroad from Victoria to the Houston area. Afterwards, many of the workers settled in the Victoria area, including the Sala family.
Mr. Sala served in the Air National Guard during the Korean War, including a period of active duty.
He is survived by two sons, Randy (Cindy) Sala of Oklahoma City, and Terry (Melanie) Sala of Victoria; daughter, Lisa (Matt) Atzenhofer of Inez; two sisters, Mrs. Alice (James) Rech and Miss Ann Sala of Victoria; and eight grandchildren.
Mr. Sala was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Belle Cowger Sala in 2008 and by a sister, Helen Josephine Sala in 2011.
Graveside Services will take place at Resurrection Cemetery at 10:00 am Thursday, March 1, 2012.
