It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Karen Jean Henry on June 16, 2025, in Victoria, Texas. Karen was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her passing has left a deep void in the lives of all who knew and loved her.
Karen was born on October 15, 1948, in Alvin, Texas, to Roger and Jeanine Wills Lovell. She spent her early years in Pearland before moving to Palacios in 1963, where she attended Palacios High School. After marrying James Henry, Karen moved to Victoria, Texas, where they lived for over 30 years and raised their three children together.
During her mid-life, Karen spent several years in the mountains of Colorado, where she volunteered as a host at a church retreat center. She cherished the peaceful setting and the opportunity to welcome and serve others in a faith-filled environment. In 2002, Karen moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, to be near her daughter Amy and help care for her grandchildren. She cherished her time in the desert and often spoke fondly of it. In 2022, she returned to Texas and made her home in Victoria.
Karen is survived by her loving children: Jason Henry (Jennifer Jo), Amy Garrett (Jeremy Woolridge), and Lisa Emery (Scott). She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Kate Garrett, Beau Garrett, Presley Henry, Grant Henry, Ava Emery, and Sawyer Emery. She was also overjoyed by the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Gemma Ruibal, whom she adored. Karen is also survived by her step-grandchildren: Casey Jo Reynolds, Erin Jo Reynolds, and Drake Ashley Brannan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger Lovell and Jeanine Wills Lovell.
Karen lived a full and vibrant life. She never missed a sporting event her children participated in and was deeply involved in their lives. A woman of strong faith, she attended church regularly and was a passionate researcher of her family history. She spent countless hours tracing family lines, uncovering stories, and preserving records that would have otherwise been lost to time. Through this dedication, she proudly became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the Daughters of the American Colonists.
She also enjoyed hunting for antiques, rug hooking, and traveling.
Karen will be remembered for her sharp wit, generous heart, unwavering love for her family, and deep devotion to her Texas roots. Most of all, she will be remembered as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, whose life reflected her enduring faith.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life service at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Rosewood Funeral Chapel in Victoria, TX.
