

L. A. “Lew” Waitschies, 85, of Victoria passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014. He was born June 25, 1928, in Fannin, Texas, to the late Arthur and Rose Preiss Waitschies. Lew served in the United States Army following World War II. He retired from Union Carbide as an operator and machinist. Lew was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl (David) Sedlacek; son, Derek Waitschies; sister, Ann Kupfernagel; brother, Freddy Waitschies, all of Victoria; grandchildren, Jamie Sedlacek of Dallas, Daryl Sedlacek of Victoria, Kyle Waitschies of Victoria and Jason Waitschies of La Grange.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolphie Angerstein Waitschies.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, March 7, 2014, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mr. Don Angerstein officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Daryl Sedlacek, Kyle Waitschies and Jason Waitschies, nephews, Robert Angerstein and Stanley Angerstein, and his friend and flying buddy, Mark Mueller.
Honorary pallbearers will be his flying buddies, Don Bolton, Jimmy Conti, Jim Joslyn, James Potcinske, Larry Wolf, James Zillig and Ray Zillig.
