Laverne Janet Gaubatz Verdine, 90, of Victoria, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025. She was born on March 28, 1935 in Goliad County to Berthold Gaubatz and Johanna Pfenninger Gaubatz. Laverne graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1953 and attended Victoria College. She married the late Lee Roy Verdine in Victoria, Texas on October 17, 1954.
Laverne was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Ruth Circle and Trinity Lutheran Women of the ELCA. She was a member of the Victoria Association for Citizens with Disabilities. Laverne worked as a secretary and an accounting clerk. She enjoyed her church, friends, researching genealogy, traveling, walking with the Trinity Walkers, but most of all, she loved time spent with her family, especially great-grandchildren.
Laverne is survived by her daughters, Vicki Boudreaux and her husband, Dan, and Melissa Verdine, both of Victoria; her grandchildren, Aaron Hunt and wife, Sara, of Montgomery, Texas and Olivia Kemp and husband, Jarad, of The Colony; her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Avery and Harley Hunt and Dominic and Stephen Kemp; her brother, J.W. Gaubatz of Mobile, Alabama; as well as nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, Robert Gaubatz.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at 9am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 106 DeLeon, with funeral services beginning at 10am. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Boudreaux, Aaron Hunt, Ethan Hunt, Jarad Kemp, Dominic Kemp and Steve Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Stephen Kemp, Jim Joslyn and Frank Molina.
The family would like to thank Laverne's caretakers for the love, compassion, and dedicated care shown to her.
