Leila (Lu) Belle Reid, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 26th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and treasured memories.
Born on January 28th, 1931, in Alvord, Texas, Lu was the youngest of seven children of John and Leila Mae Reid. After graduating from Schulenburg High, she moved with her family to Victoria, Texas, in the late 1950s, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Lu was the devoted mother of Susan Cogburn, Tommy Willemin, and Annette Wall. She was also the proud grandmother of 8 grandchildren and great-grandmother of 13. As a lifelong animal lover, her dogs Precious and Freckles brought her much joy in her later years.
Lu spent much of her career in the medical field as an administrative assistant to local doctors in Victoria and later found joy as a door greeter at Sam’s Club. Her warm smile and vibrant personality brightened the day of everyone she met.
Lu was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, her son Tommy Willemin, and her granddaughter Megan Marie Wall-Whitworth. Her love and legacy will live on in all her family and loved ones. She is deeply missed by her family and friends, who will forever cherish her love and kindness.
A celebration of Lu’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral, 1309 E. Mesquite Lane, Victoria, Texas, 77901, at 10 am on what would have been her 94th birthday. All are welcome to join in honoring her memory. May Lu’s legacy of compassion and joy continue to shine in the lives of those she touched.
