

James Leon Walton, 92, of Victoria passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017. He was born on October 14, 1925 in Nacogdoches, Texas to Jack and Ava Hamby Walton. He was a veteran of WWII in the Merchant Marines, steering the boat through the Panama Canal. He worked for the Department of Public Safety of Texas for 34 years and was an Honorary Texas Ranger. Mr. Walton was a Mason, 32-degree Scottish Rite, and Shriner. He was dedicated to the Shriner’s Cripple Children’s Hospital.
Survivor’s include his brother, Glenn Walton of Amarillo, TX; and sister, Judy Standlan, Nacogdoches, TX; daughters, Janis McLaughlin of Brownwood, TX, Nancy Shock of Spring, TX; sons, David (Debra) Walton of Midland, TX, and James Walton of Dallas, TX.; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents Mr. Walton was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Sims Walton; and brothers, Bob Walton and Keith Walton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Rosewood Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2 pm on Thursday, January 4, 2017 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with Mr. Glenn Walton officiating. Masonic Lodge #40 AF & AM and military graveside services under the auspices of the Victoria Veterans Council will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or The Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX.
