

Lige (Ed) Powers, 78, of Victoria passed away February 26, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born in Mobeetie, Texas, October 22, 1932, to the late Lewis Elijah and Orbie Jewel Simms Powers. Mr. Powers was self employed as owner and operator of a trucking business. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and VFW Post 4403. Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing, entertaining family and friends with his famous barbeque, and loved life even though the last few years were medically challenging.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorothy Nell (Earl) Powers, of Victoria; step-daughter, Janet (Shannon) and husband, James “Jim” Rudd, of Lake Jackson; sons, Ricky Powers and wife, Janet, of Oklahoma, and Glen Powers and wife, Shelley, of Hartford, Arkansas; step-grandchild, Jacob Rudd; grandchildren, Dustin Powers, Clayton Powers and Amanda Powers; great-grandchildren, Allen Powers, Amber Powers, Lacy Powers, Lillieann Powers, Daisee Powers, Isabel Powers, Irish Rain Powers and Skylar Powers.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Berniece (Powers) Davis, and brothers H.L. Powers, Robert Paul Powers and Will D. Powers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday, February 28, 2011, at the Rosewood Funeral Chapels.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at 10 AM from the Rosewood Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of the Victoria Veterans Council.
Pallbearers will be Percy Jeane, Leslie Stringham, Bob Johns, Royce Gower, Dr. Jim Leuders and Winston Low.
