Alan Bucek, born May 3, 1934, peacefully passed from this reality to the next on Saturday, December 8, 2018 about the same time of day that he arrived over 84 years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Bucek and Nona Rogers Bucek; and by his brother, Roger Bucek.
Alan is survived by his sister, Ruth Bucek Homeyer (Bob) of Kenedy; nephew, Bobby Homeyer (Joyce); and niece, Robbin Homeyer Alexander, also of Kenedy. Alan also leaves five great nieces and nephews and spouses, as well as eight great great nieces and nephews.
Alan wanted people to know that being a Christian was very important to him. This was evident in the peaceful manner he died. He was a member of Kenedy First Baptist Church and later of Northside Baptist Church in Victoria.
Alan attended A&M for one year before enlisting in the Army to serve his country. He served his tour in Hawaii. He loved to tease, saying of his time in Hawaii, “Someone had to do it.” After the Army, Alan attended A&I for a year and then graduated from UCC. He later received his Master’s Degree from Prairie View A&M. Alan proudly taught in the DECA program for fifteen years at Stroman High School in Victoria. He loved the students in the DECA program and kept up with many of them over the years.
Alan made friends wherever he worked. He loved his various coffee shop groups and later in life he really loved being with his friends at Senior Citizen activities.
In his own words, “Mr B loved everybody”, and that is very true of Alan. He liked everyone. He loved that people called him Mr. B or Grumpy and proudly wore caps labeled that way.
There are some people who can see others as more than they are; see the world as better than it is; can see dingy glass as crystal clear. This was Alan. When he saw someone as “more” than an ordinary child or student…they tended to elevate a little more to that expectation. When he saw someone as “better” than an average teacher or banker…people tried a little harder. Alan touched many lives in this way.
To Alan’s family, he leaves a lifetime of memories and unconditional love and pride. We are rich with his legacy of honesty, generosity, love, curiosity, memories, and values.
