Louise Emma Dillman Day began her remarkable adventure on May 15, 1932 in Mercedes, Texas in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley. She recalled fondly the sweet fragrance rising from the citrus groves. In 1939 her father and mother pulled up roots and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas which she grew to love. Often she would mention how she loved to read, memorize the words to songs of that era, sing, walk to the beach and swim with her siblings. She attended Elizabeth Street Elementary, Wynn Seale Junior High and Corpus Christi High School from which she graduated in 1949. She was bright, beautiful and engaging and married the "boy next door", Cecil Allen Day, on December 17, 1950 at First Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi.
She was a devoted mother and wife and managed her household well. Frugality was her middle name--she could "squeeze a nickel out of a penny and a dollar out of a dime". Her children were her proudest achievement and she instilled in us a love for learning and a love for the Lord that will endure forever.
She loved the stories that people brought to the table. She would engage people she met and relished discovering who they were and what they were about. "Everybody has a story to tell" was her mantra for social interaction. A consummate conversationalist, she was rarely at a loss for words. Furthermore, in her opinion, everyone should have an opinion about everything. She was always ready for a good debate.
Of course a description of her life is incomplete without mentioning her love for Jesus and all things Bible. She devoted her later years to prayer, Bible study, telling others about Christ and instilling a Christian ethic in her grandchildren.
She was a force to be reckoned with and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her well.
Mom passed away in the early hours of December 26 in Yorktown, Texas. She was a long time resident of Victoria and member of Northside Baptist Church. She loved being a part of the Sonshine Sisters Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents Louis Henry and Lydia Jasmann Dillman, sisters Ruth Talbert, Anita Skrobarczyk, Mildred Blouw, and brother Melvin Dillman.
She is survived by her sister Violet (Doug) Frost of The Woodlands and daughters Dr. Francys Day of Austin, Sallie Smith of Yorktown, sons, Dr. Ralph (Rose) Day of Camp Wood and Will Day of San Antonio and ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
