Lucille Totah Araj, 93, daughter of the late Ibrahim and Nabiha (Nazzal) Totah, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018. She was born in Jerusalem, Palestine on June 23, 1925 where she attended the Friend’s Girls School. She and her family moved to Texas in 1957.
Lucille is survived by her son, Edward Araj; daughter, Leila Cross, and son-in-law, Don Cross; grandson, John Araj; son-in-law, Dr. John Isaac; her three great-grandchildren, Chad Isaac, Cole Isaac and Caroline Isaac, who called her “Pom;" and daughter-in-law, Luann Singleton. Lucille is preceded in death by her husband; John Araj; son, Henry Araj; granddaughter, Tammy Isaac; sisters, Aida Mansour, Grace Burton and brother, Nabeeh Totah.
Lucille earned her B.A. in music from Southwest Texas State University and taught music at O’Connor Elementary School in Victoria for many years, until her retirement. Along with being an accomplished music teacher she also became a world traveler. She loved hosting parties and participating in all of her various clubs.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Pilot Club, Organ Club, Music Club, Decora Study Club, Victoria Symphony League, Azalea Garden Club, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Catholic Daughters and the St. Mary’s Altar Society.
The family would like to thank all that prayed for and visited her especially, Jeanette Totah and Dolores Tyng. Also, thank you to Dr. John Isaac who took such good care of her and to her caregiver, Elizabeth Smith.
A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 2 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Keith Totah, John Araj, Chad Isaac, Cole Isaac, Nihad Foty and Brian Mansour.
