

On the morning of December 28, 2015, Mabel Clara Maund Sherman passed away at Citizens Medical Center in Victoria, TX surrounded by family. Mabel Sherman was born on January 17, 1921 in Hemphill, TX. She was the sixth child of eight siblings of Annie Eltona and Harry Maund.
Her grandfather Henry Clay served Sabine County in the state legislature and was at one time Speaker of the House. Harry Mellon Maund, Mabel’s father, owned several lumber mills in Texas and did quite will until the crash of 1929. Her mother passed away when Mabel was only eight years old.
Mabel married Hugh Alton Sherman on September 14, 1940 while she was in training to become a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Port Arthur, TX. Three years later he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Shreveport, Louisiana. During that time Mabel had both of their children, Michael Hugh and LaJuana Ruth. In 1950 they moved to Victoria, TX where they spent the rest of their lives.
Mabel worked side by side with Hough building beautiful homes. She was the accountant, interior decorator and designer for Hough Sherman Homes. She was very involved in the First Baptist Church serving the Lord by teaching Sunday school, Bible school and served in any area needed. She was also a talented seamstress and loved designing beautiful gowns for her daughter, as well as lovely home décor, and anything her grandchildren needed.
Mabel Clara Maund Sherman was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and her loving husband.
Mabel is survived by her son, Michael Sherman and wife Susan, daughter, LaJuana Roth and husband Steve; grandchildren, Stephanie O’dowd and husband Jonathan, Casey Roth, Andra Liemandt and husband Joe, Ryon Sherman and Priscilla; great grandchildren, Booke, Luke, Bella, Kate, Jonas, Elle and Dexter.
Pallbearers will be Stephanie O’dowd, Jonathan O’dowd, Casey Roth, Andra Liemandt, Joe Liemandt, and Ryon Sherman.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home.
A private funeral service with entombment will be held at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or donor’s choice. We would like to thank the staff at Brookdale, Brightwater, Dr. Peter Nguyen, and the kind nurses in the ICU at Citizens Medical Center.
