Margaret King-Vasek passed away peacefully on the 4th of January 2025. “Tootsie” as she was known to family and friends, was born in Waco, Texas on the 12th of August 1931, the daughter of Charles Rustique Guenat and Julia Mary Miculka Guenat.
Tootsie was a woman of deep faith which was evident in her everyday life. A lifelong member of Our Lady of Victory Cathedral where she not only helped establish the CCD program in 1967, but taught the second grade religion class for many years. She was a member of the Altar Society, past member of the senior choir, led the Rosary at the 5:30 pm Mass on Wednesday evening and also at the area nursing homes before for many years. Her religion and her beloved church gave her strength and faith in God.
Tootsie worked for Weatherly Engineering for many years and then worked as the office manager for Stuart-Foster Well Testers until her retirement.
Tootsie’s greatest gift was her family; sons Charley King and wife Lynda of Victoria and John King and wife Carla of The Woodlands. She was blessed to be called “Grandmother” by her grandchildren Kristin LaNae (Johnathan) Edgeller, Jennifer Lynn (Cameron) Brademan and step-grandchild Christopher Owen. Along with great grandchildren Sophie, Luke and Stella Edgeller, Charley and Emma Brademan.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at ten o’clock in the morning Friday, the 10th of January at The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory followed by the recitation of the rosary at half past ten in the morning. The Mass of Christian burial is to be offered at eleven o’clock with The Rev. Father Kirby Hlavaty presiding.
The family will gather for a private burial in Waco, TX at the Holy Cross Cemetery where Tootsie will be laid to rest beside her husband, Roland King who passed away in 1972.
Tootsie was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in memory of Tootsie may be directed to Our Lady of Victory Cathedral Restoration Fund.
