

Marjorie Joyce Mikeska Johnston, 88, of Victoria, passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016. Marjorie was born in Port Lavaca to the late Joseph P. and Lillian Marek Mikeska. She married William B. Johnston Jr. on Christmas Eve in 1945. They had two beautiful daughters, Charlotte and Billie Jean. Marjorie worked as a receptionist for Dr. Ern Mooney for over 40 years. After retiring, she volunteered at Citizen’s Medical Center as a Pink Lady. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church where she participated in the Ruth Circle Bible Study group.
Marjorie was an avid gardener, who enjoyed working in her yard, nurturing her plum tree, and putting up plum preserves. She loved to bake for her family and always had a full selection of kolaches and spice bars ready for the holidays. Marjorie was very active in a variety of groups and organizations including the Women’s Auxiliary groups of the VFW, DAV, and the National Association of Letter Carriers which she served as President in 1971-1972.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, William B. Johnston Jr., her parents, and brothers Joseph and George, as well as four siblings who did not survive past infancy.
Marjorie is survived by daughters: Charlotte (Glenn) Cooper of Katy, TX and Billie Jean Chomitzky of Victoria, TX; grandchildren: Suzanne (Jesse) Hatter, Michael (Courtney) Cooper, Stacy (Joe) Heston, Brandi Chomitzky, Myron “Bud”(Jessica) Chomitzky III, and William Chomitzky; and great-grandchildren: Kailey and Cooper Hatter, Zoe and Hudson Cooper, Myron “Rex” Chomitzky IV, and Kayleigh Chomitzky.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 13th at First English Lutheran Church in Victoria. A reception will immediately follow.
