

She was preceded in death by husband, James B Stewart of Victoria, Texas, mother, Anna Atkinson, and father, John Atkinson of Corpus Christi, Texas. She is survived by her children, Eileen Stewart; son-in-law, Gary Hall; son, William J. Stewart and brothers, Clint and Tom Atkinson.
Born on December 25, 1944 in New Orleans Louisiana. When Mitzie was a child her family lived in Guatemala where she learned to speak Spanish and developed a love of learning and language. Mitzie attended the University of Texas earning a Master’s degree in Library Science. She returned to Corpus Christi where she became the acting public library director for a number of years. She married James B Stewart and they moved to Victoria Texas in 1978 where she became the serials librarian at Victoria College where she spent over thirty years before retiring.
In her spare time Mitzie was an avid writer completing over three-dozen novels and plays. She shared her creative inspiration with her children who pursued artistic careers. Mitzie continued her mothers’ tradition to put family first, supporting her husband and children’s interests giving them her time, energy, love, and support.
Whenever there was time, she loved to write, ride horses, and garden.
Mitzie loved arts and culture and was a board member of Theatre Victoria for many years. Additionally, she supported the Victoria Bach Festival, Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Ballet Association, local museums, and other artistic outlets.
She lived an exemplary life and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Mitzie's life will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 4 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church of Victoria.
