Long-time Victoria resident Nettie Mae (Bagley) Korthals was born in June of 1927 in Superior, Nebraska to Charles and Luceil Bagley. She was the eldest of five children, and she helped raise her siblings in a rural setting during the depression. Nettie met Albert H. Korthals, a veteran of the Pacific theater in WWII, in Fairbury, Nebraska in 1947. Nettie and Al married in Mission, Texas in March of 1948. Al’s career with Halliburton brought Nettie and him and their three children to Victoria in 1962, and Nettie called Victoria home since that time. She entered eternal life on January 15, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Al, her sister Barbara (Bagley) Lemon of Wichita, Kansas, her brother Charles Bagley of Pasco, Washington, and her son-in-law, Kenneth Sonntag of Victoria. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Ann Sonntag of Victoria and Jo Ellen Korthals and husband Mark Taylor of San Marcos, by her son Alan Korthals and wife Susan of Boston, Massachusetts, and by her grandchildren, Ashley Korthals Reynolds and husband Ryan, of Amherst, New Hampshire, Caroline Korthals and Meredith Korthals of Boston, Massachusetts, and Benjamin Korthals Taylor of San Marcos, by her sister Betty Marcotte and husband Don of Santa Paula, California, and by her brother, Richard Bagley and wife Janene of Superior, Nebraska. Visitation will be at 1 pm on Saturday, January 19th at Christ the Victor Lutheran Church in Victoria, followed by a service to celebrate Nettie’s life at 2:30 pm. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, 202 Stanly Street, Victoria, TX 77901 or a charity of your choice.
