

Nona was a 1945 graduate of Sunset High School in Dallas and attended Durham’s Business College. After completion of her studies, she was employed as a secretary for the Sun Oil Company in Dallas. She was a member of the winning Sunbonnet Bowling Team, sponsored by Sun Oil Company. In early childhood, she was nicknamed “Muffet” and later was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Oma”. She married Marvin Franklin Nielsen on April 9, 1948 at the Exposition Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Nona and Marvin moved to College Station, Texas, where Marvin graduated from Texas A&M in 1955 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. They moved to Victoria in 1955, where Marvin accepted a position at Union Carbide. Nona was a past president of the Azalea Garden Club, member and officer of the Decora Study Club and served as the Victoria County Residential Chairman for the American Cancer Society. She held numerous leadership positions at Grace Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed traveling locally and was fortunate to travel the world with family and friends.
Nona is survived by her son, Ernest Brion Nielsen and his wife Cecelia; daughter, Sarah Lynn Nielsen Olsovsky; grandson, Brion Gregory Nielsen and his wife Deidra; granddaughter, Katherian Olsovsky-Wagner; step granddaughter, Brittney S. Conway, great-grandchildren, Lyra and Kayle Nielsen.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 6 to 8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Grace Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Fultz officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 3604 N. Ben Jordan, Victoria, Texas.
