Oliver H. Koenig, 86, of Victoria passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014. He was born March 16, 1927 in Floresville, Texas to the late Emil and Margaret Janssen Koenig. He was a devout Lutheran who upon moving to Victoria in 1947, joined First English Lutheran Church and helped establish its mission church, Christ the Victor, in 1965. He was an active member and served on the church council. He was involved in construction throughout his life and founded Oliver Koenig Builder, which he operated from 1961 to 1998, building homes in the Victoria and surrounding area. He was past President of the Victoria Homebuilders Association, two time Builder of the Year, Life Member of the VFW and President of the Polka and Waltz Club. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Germany, as a staff sergeant and interpreter. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen McDonald Koenig of Victoria; daughters, Janis Phifer and husband, Bill of Austin, Sandra Green and husband, Phillip of Boerne; sons, Oliver H. “Butch” Koenig, Jr. and wife, Emily of Victoria, Doyle Koenig and wife, Linda of Leander; sisters, Joyce Henry of Canal Fulton, Ohio, Margie Bodden of Karnes City, TX; grandchildren, Trey Koenig and wife, Heather, Zak Koenig and wife, Kayla, Hilary Koenig, Olivia Phifer-Combs, MD and husband, Neil, Jacob Green and wife, Jill, Laura Srp and husband, Matt, Michael Green, Cody Green, Hannah Green, Josh Green, Mindalynn Moffett and husband, Scott, Lindsey Foote and husband, Kelly, Weston Koenig; great grandchildren, Zane Koenig, Kennedy Koenig, Skylar Koenig, Caitlin Koenig, Oliver H. Koenig, IV, Luke Koenig, Layne Moffett, Cameron Moffett, Jillian Koenig, Eli Oliver Srp, Cullen Srp and Beckett Srp. In addition to his parents, Mr. Koenig was preceded in death by a brother, R. J. Koenig. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be 10 AM on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Pearson and Rev. Sharon Wiggins. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Oliver “Trey” Koenig, III, Zachary Koenig, Weston Koenig, Jacob Green, Michael Green, Cody Green, Josh Green and great grandsons, Zane Koenig and Layne Moffett. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Hilary Koenig, Olivia Phifer-Combs, MD, Mindalynn Moffett, Laura Srp, Hannah Green, Lindsey Foote, as well as Jeff Klare, Joe Kozielski, Joe Pustka and Floyd Wuenche. Memorials may be made to Christ the Victor Lutheran Church, 202 Stanly, Victoria, TX 77904 or First English Lutheran Church, 516 N. Main, Victoria, TX 77901. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at Arrangements under the direction of Rosewood Funeral Chapel, Victoria, TX.
