

Pablo Guel Herrera, 84, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2013 in his home in Victoria, Texas. Born in Monterrey, Mexico on May 19, 1929, to the late Pedro Guel Ramos and Eligia Herrera Guel, Pablo immigrated to and considered San Antonio, Texas his home. He was a banker in Mexico and a self-employed salesman in San Antonio.
Pablo’s passions were education and classical music. His insistence on hard work and the pursuit of higher education was instrumental in his children’s successes, all three achieving Master and/or Doctoral degrees.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alicia Salinas Guel of Victoria; daughters, Nora Guel Tavásoli and husband, Asghar of Austin, Dr. Veronica Guel Valdivia and husband, John of Victoria; son, Dr. Jorge Guel and wife, Carmen of San Antonio; brothers, Prisciliano Guel of McAllen, Pedro Guel of Monterrey, Mexico, Carlos Guel of Los Angeles, California, Arthur Guel of Houston and sister, Herculana Guel Escobar of San Antonio.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosa Guel and brothers, Manuel, Mario and Jose Angel Guel, and nephew, Miguel Guel.
The joys of his life were his grandchildren: Darius Paul Tavásoli of Charleston, South Carolina, Kevan Michael Tavásoli of Austin; Ileana Rocio, Analicia Carolina and Mariana Isabel Valdivia of Victoria; and Camilla Anastasia Guel of San Antonio.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 10 am at the Our Lady of Victory Cathedral with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. A rosary will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the Guel residence.
