Patricia A. "Mimi" Spurlin, age 87, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2021. She was born December 7, 1933 in Seattle, Washington to the late Terence Ambrose Liston and Anna C. Rotter Liston. She grew up in and around the Seattle area and met her soon to be loving husband for the next 59 years Charles Spurlin in Des Moines, Washington where he was stationed following the Korean War. The couple married on November 26, 1953, and had five children (Cynthia Ann, Debra Sue, Charles Jr., Preston David, and Steven Michael).
They moved to the Victoria area in 1961 and she experienced her 1st hurricane, "Carla". This natural disaster in the 1st year of living in the Victoria area made her want to pack her bags and head back north, but she stayed in the area for the next 60 years and grew to love the town and the people, especially her neighbors who all lived together all of those years. She was a doting mother to the five kids and enjoyed playing both card and board games with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed her leisure time, whether it was enjoying her beach house in Rockport, her weekly Wednesday bingo sessions with her lifelong Bingo buddies, Evelyn and Gladys Eisman or pulling on slot machine handles. She was always laughing and smiling her way through life. She worked countless elections at the Our Saviours Lutheran Church as an election official. She and her husband Charles worked tirelessly to preserve the old downtown courthouse. She loved living in her house and she required assistance which was lovingly provided by several caregivers who treated her like she was a member of their family. When you visited her home, you weren't leaving until your belly was full. She loved to cook and provide for others. Mimi was a very special person and will be missed by all of her family and friends.
She is survived by children, Cynthia Ann (Sam) Pena of Austin, Debra Garner of Victoria, Charles D. Spurlin Jr. (Antoinette) of Victoria, Preston David (Cheryl) Spurlin of Richardson, and Steven (Sharon) Spurlin of Houston; brother, Thomas Raymond Liston; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dennis Spurlin Sr.; her parents; brothers, Terrence William Liston and William Liston; and sisters, Rita "K" Liston Wade, Anna L. Liston Smith and Mary T. Liston McVey.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10am at Colonial Funeral Home followed by graveside services at Evergreen Cemetery.
