Ramona moved to Texas with her family as a child and graduated from Wink High School 1949 where she was in the Wildcat marching band and editor of the yearbook. Ramona wed Leo Hoskins in August,1950, and started a family eventually moving to San Angelo where she worked as a supervisor at the Levi Strauss plant and met her long-time friend, Ginny, with whom she shared many adventures. Ramona also started a mid-life career with the U.S. Civil Service in 1972 as a Federal Protective Officer. At the time, she earned the nick-name, “Pistol-Packing Mama” when she qualified as “Sharpshooter,” only the second woman in GSA at the time to have earned that status. Ramona proudly retired from civil service after 24 years in 1996.
Ramona loved traveling, fishing and being with family and friends. Over the years her adventures took her to Las Vegas (many times) the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii and many other places in between. She was always ready to take a plane, train, bus or boat. Her life-long enjoyment was fishing, especially on the Jetty’s in Port Aransas with her Mom and Dad and later with her children and grand-children.
The family gratefully acknowledges the loving support of Ramona’s friend and caregiver, Jackie Burnet; and also the care of Crown Hospice as she began her final adventure into the arms of Jesus and the many family and friends waiting for her there.
