Richard C. Clay, 89, of Victoria Texas, went to be with his faithful and heavenly Father on January 3, 2025. From the beginning, Richard was a dreamer. As he grew, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he dreamed of serving his fellow man, raising a family, dedicating to a meaningful career, and marrying the love his life.
His dream of service came true when he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served our nation during the Korean conflict. The dream of a family came true when three children were born – Melinda, Deborah and Malcolm - to he and his wife of 25 years, Thelma Bowen Clay. Unfortunately, Thelma passed away in 1982.
The dream of a meaningful career was achieved as Richard worked for Dupont as an Industrial Mechanic for 37 years. And his love and passion for trains was exhibited annually as he volunteered for the Austin Steam Train Association. Richard was always passionate about sharing his stories of trains with his friends and family.
And finally, the dream of meeting the love of his life came true when he met and married his wife, Lois Davis Clay, in 1986. Richard also gained 2 adult sons at that time, Paul and Alan and their spouses, Kelly and Belinda, respectively. And eventually, 5 grandchildren, Wesley, Whitney, Wrandi, Matthew and Megan.
Richard was a constant presence at Northside Baptist Church where he volunteered in countless ways. His mark on the history and legacy of that church is engraved in the minds of all who encountered him. Especially with his volunteer work with The Mighty Men.
The Clays were together for over 39 years with Lois being at his side when he went to home to heaven.
The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Morada Senior Living, Victoria. Funeral services will be held at Northside Baptist Church, Victoria, on January 31st, 10am with military honors provided by the Victoria Veterans Council to follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association, Morada Victoria.
