Richard was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 26, 1953, to Wade McNay Seals Sr. and Margaret Riegel Seals. He attended Victoria High School and graduated with the Class of 1972. During his school years, was also a proud member of the Stingaree football team. Richard was also a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 364, where he achieved the rank of Life Scout. He later became a Scout leader for his son. Becoming a scout leader for Grayson wasn’t a small thing for Richard. He was not only a proud father because his son followed in his many footsteps but also achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. They shared many memories and life experiences during their many campouts and scout barbeques. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and taught all his tips and tricks to his son at a very early age.
Following high school, Richard made the decision to join the United States Navy. After five years of honorable service, he returned to Victoria and began working for BP Greenlake. He was later transferred to Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked on the North Slope. During his time in Alaska, he also served for three years in the Alaska Army National Guard. Richard eventually returned home to Victoria, where he worked for Formosa Inland Traffic until his retirement in July 2020.
Richard married Beverly Jean Graff on October 3, 1998, in San Antonio, Texas. Four years later, they welcomed their beloved son into the world.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Seals; his son, Grayson Seals, and daughter-in-law, Karli Seals; his brothers, David Seals and wife Jan, Kenny Seals Sr. and wife Carolyn, and Jesse Seals and wife Denise; his sister, Patty Whiting, and her husband, Mike; his, mother-in-law, Carolyn Sue Graff; his sisters-in-law, Pam Seals and Sandy Seals; his brother-in-law, Neil Graff and wife Stacy; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Wade McNay Seals Sr. and Margaret Riegel Seals; his siblings, Margaret Seals, John Seals, Anna Seals, Wade Seals Jr. and his wife, Selene, Gregory Seals, and Christopher Seals; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to say a big thank you to our pallbearers, Grayson Seals, Neil Graff, Mike Whiting, Zachary Whiting, Roger Lawrence, and Jim Ridley, and our honorary pallbearers, David Seals Jr., Daniel Seals, Kenny Seals Jr., Michael Seals, Jason Seals, Wade Seals III and BSA Troop 364 Leaders and Eagle Scouts.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at First English Lutheran Church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Hondo, Texas.
