

Mary Rita Koett Meyer was born November 2, 1916, in Burlington, Iowa, to Henry A. Koett and Caroline Lohman Koett. Rita was three years old when her mother passed away after contracting tuberculosis while tending the sick in Burlington. Her father passed away when Rita was 16 years old. Rita and her brother, Eddie, were raised by their aunts, Mary Elizabeth (Mamie) Koett and Agnes Rose (Aggie) Koett in San Antonio, Texas.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, husband, A.C. (Tony) Meyer, who was the love of her life, and brother, H.L.(Eddie) Koett.
She is survived by a son, David H. Meyer (Donna) of Terrytown, LA; daughters, Toni Wyer (J.W.) of Edna, Carolyn Costanza of Kenner, LA, Peggy Larsen (Carl) of Bandera, Tx; also grandsons, Johnny Reckaway, Matt Costanza, Vincent Costanza, Jr., Brian Meyer, Kurt Meyer; granddaughters, Melissa Ranna, Michelle Fraley, Kristy Wagner, Jeanette Bunch, Claire Adams, Joan Schaff; 16 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Rita was employed by The Texas Department of Human Services, Children's Protective Services in Victoria, until retirement in 1984. She continued to work for the Victoria Food Bank until 1990 when she began traveling and touring 49 states having missed only one state, Alaska. Her travel days ended when she broke her hip while touring Hawaii in 2000.
Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Rita’s family is very appreciative of Hospice of South Texas who made Rita’s last days as comfortable as possible. Lottie Griffaldo of Edna was also a very special friend and caregiver.
Private graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens of Edna.
