

Robert “Bob” Briffett lost a long heroic fight against cancer on Sunday, June 10, 2012. Bob was born on January 14, 1944, at the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo, Texas, to the late Margaret Batson and Robert Paul Briffett. He attended public school in Edna where he was involved in various activities such as Boy Scouts and Royal Ambassadors. After graduation, he attended Texas Lutheran University, Wharton County Junior College and The University of Texas at Austin. He joined the US Air Force in 1966, and left the service with the rank of Sergeant in 1969 at Tampa, Florida, after a stint in Da Nang, Vietnam as a Weapons System Control Mechanic on the F-4 Fighter. He then joined Honeywell Information Systems in Tampa, Florida, as a reliability engineer. He married the joy of his life, Patricia (Patty) Harrington on May 6, 1972, and enjoyed a wonderful 40+ years of marriage. He returned to Edna in 1976 to assist his step-father, Ditty Allen, in his farming operation, and then went to work for the USDA/Farm Service Agency, and retired as County Executive Director of the DeWitt County FSA Office. Most recently he was working for the Victoria Central Appraisal District. He was involved again in Boy Scouts as an adult leader, and was awarded the district award of Merit. He was twice President of the Cuero Rotary Club, and attended the World Convention in Barcelona, Spain with Patty. He was then appointed assistant governer to his rotary district, and performed many functions for the governor at that time.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty; his daughter, Candy Johnson and husband, Steve of Kirt-Merrington, England; grandsons, Cody and Tyler Lovelace of Kirk-Merrington, England, and Hunter Keszler of Ganado; and step-daughter, Karen Olsen of Daytona Beach, Florida.
The family will receive friends at Rosewood Funeral Chapels Wednesday, June 13, 2012, from 6 to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with the Rev. Larry Green officiating. Full military honors will be performed by the Victoria Veterans Council.
