

Robert Cantu Martinez, 65, of Victoria passed away October 2, 2014. He was born July 6, 1949, in Victoria to the late Domingo and Micaela Cantu Martinez. Robert was a self-employed painting contractor and proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Ortiz Martinez of Victoria; sons, Robert Martinez, Jr. and Rafael Martinez both of Victoria; sisters, Lupe Gonzales, Janie Tijerina and Mary Alice Martinez all of Victoria, Santos Ruiz of Texas City; brothers, Rosalio Martinez of Inez, Santiago Martinez of Port Arthur, Daniel and Domingo Martinez, Jr. both of Victoria; and two grandchildren, Elijah and Evan Martinez.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dominga Vasquez.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2 pm Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 6, 2014 at 10 AM at Rosewood Funeral Chapels with Chaplain Lyman Mereness officiating. Interment will follow in Wood Hi Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the United State Marine Corps Honor Guard and the Marine Corps League.
Pallbearers will be Robert Martinez, Jr., Rafael Martinez, Richard Ruiz, Mike Vasquez, Jimmy Martinez, Jr., Fernando Martinez, Jason Arredondo and Paul Ortiz, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Elijah and Evan Martinez.
